A BIT ABOUT ME

I am originally from Netherlands, but have grown up and lived in various international communities around Europe and the United States. In 2018 I moved to Edinburgh where I now work as a qualified counsellor. I’ve practiced predominately at agencies in Leith and South Edinburgh, allowing to me to engage with a broad range of issues and responding flexibly to the many different needs in counselling. I work particularly with loss, anxiety, depression, anger, and existential roadblocks, such as feelings of purposelessness.

I love the stories that are brought to the counselling room. These are woven by the sense and meaning that we make of our lives. Our personal stories bring to life how we relate to ourselves and others around us in a very real way. Much of who we are remains shrouded, but counselling can help shed a little light on those bits we seek to change or understand.

BACKGROUND

I began my training in the support sector in 2015, working in palliative and hospice care. During my work, I was often moved by people’s willingness to invite me into their lives. Hearing how my clients approached their final days was a privilege, cultivating a deep appreciation for the ways in which we relate to loss and the various existential questions this can evoke.

Alongside completing a BA (Hons) in Psychology and Philosophy, I completed courses in Buddhist studies at the University of Kathmandu. I continued my development at the University of Edinburgh where I gained postgraduate qualifications in counselling and psychotherapy. I am now completing a Doctorate in Psychotherapy and Counselling, and occasionally work in the capacity as a tutor and teaching assistant.
